Museums
Historical markers dot the roadside with interesting tidbits. To journey back in time be sure to visit one of the many area museums.
If gold interests you there is some in the museum in the center of the square in Dahlonega, Georgia. The hours of operation are Monday-Saturday 9 A.M. - 5 P.M. and on Sundays 10 A.M. to 5 P.M.. The museum is closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. A small admission fee is required. There's also a place in white County. The museum at the Sautee Nacoochee Community Center on HWY 255 has a very nice history of the area ranging from the initial Indian settlements through the gold rush and lumber days. In another room is a nice art gallery and a souvenir shop with products by local artisans. White County in Cleveland, Georgia and Union County in Blairsville, Georgia both have museums in the old courthouse buildings on a circle in the center of town
The museum in Blairsville also has section dedicated to elaborate dollhouses. For more information on the Union County Courthouse go to Union County website.
